Bible Speed Reading: Grasping the Big Picture

by John on February 10, 2010

A few days ago I started reading the Bible. I considered reading it in a year, but ultimately decided 90 days. You read correctly, 90 DAYS!

One of the frustrations I’ve always had was trying to connect one story from the Bible with another story from it. It was difficult to see the fluidity of the narrative.

Another struggle I’ve had with one year reading plans was that the end seemed so far away. The goal wasn’t in the visible future, which prevented me several times from continuing the plan I was on.

Don’t get me wrong, I think that reading the Bible slowly is of great benefit. It allows you to focus on a particular passage with more focused intensity. Reading at a faster rate, however, will reveal large-scale correlations.

Just days into this reading plan, I’m seeing things I’ve never seen before. It’s powerful and revealing.

I’m looking forward to sharing some of my findings related to how God tells his people to handle money, work, and life.

For those of you who have struggled in the past to read through the Bible in a year, why not try a more aggressive approach? Maybe the sprint will be good for you. Your thoughts?
